Who is FC Sochaux-Montbéliard?
FC Sochaux-Montbéliard is one of the most historic and respected football clubs in France. Founded in 1928 by Jean-Pierre Peugeot, the club was among the pioneers of professional football in the country. Sochaux has won two French league championships, two Coupe de France titles and the Coupe de la Ligue, while also spending many seasons competing at the highest level of French football.
The club is particularly renowned for its youth academy and its long-standing commitment to developing talented young players. Over the years, Sochaux has helped produce or develop numerous footballers who later competed at the highest levels in France and internationally. This strong development culture remains an important part of the club’s sporting identity and recruitment strategy.
Following a difficult period that included financial challenges and administrative relegation, Sochaux began rebuilding its sporting and organisational structure. The club earned its return to Ligue 2 for the 2026–27 season, marking an important step in its recovery and long-term ambition.
The club’s recent squad has included experienced professionals and emerging talents such as goalkeeper Mehdi Jeannin, Haitian international Alexandre Pierre, defenders Mathieu Peybernes, Arthur Vitelli, Dalangunypole Gomis and Bendjaloud Youssouf. Midfielder Victor Lobry also joined the club in June 2026 as one of its first signings ahead of the new Ligue 2 season.
With its historic achievements, respected academy and renewed sporting direction, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard continues to hold an important place in French football. Its return to Ligue 2 represents both a successful stage in the rebuilding process and an opportunity for the club to re-establish itself within the country’s professional football structure.

From a sporting director’s perspective, the platform helps answer the most important recruitment questions.
