Comparisonator CEO Tarkan Batgun, describing how Comparisonator is helping sports directors and chief scouts as “first elemination tool”.
“As the former director of Scouting and Recruitment in Bursaspor back in the days with Christophe Daum, our most time was spent investigating players, especially coming from agencies. We were averaging hard to believe 50 players a day. And it was just the first stage. Luckily, I had a team of 3 video scouts who were constantly watching every player sent to us and making a decision to investigate them further. If we had the time, we sent scouts out to watch players.
Process in the past
Those were the times I actually invented Comparisonator tool. Due to the fact that each player needed a minimum time of 2-3 hours to make a decision to include the player inside our follow-up portfolio. This was a huge amount of time, and my department was working 24 x 7 just to complete the first elimination stage. Of course, I was even luckier to have 2 other scouts investigate potential players ourselves, with the directions and the player descriptions coming from our technical and higher management people.
How we eliminated players who were not good enough to spend unnecessary energy?
To do this job, I created a specific tagging operation using Wyscout and SportsCode combination (I worked with both companies respectively 10 and 15 years myself) by only using necessary player tags, created value to each parameter, extracted the data to export to excel platform with our benchmarks. It was a massive job for us, but it gave us the power to create first of its kind “Comparisonator” engine, which took us 6 months to complete our first elimination stage construction. This process, combining other stages of data investigation, resulted in the club making outgoing sales of more than 35 Million Euros later.
How does Comparisonator stop unnecessary energy at first glimpse?
Thanks to the “Artificially Intelligent Index” that we created in-house, the definition of player levels takes almost seconds to realize and eliminate any player who is not suitable and to move on to your next player to analyze. If the benchmark player performance level in your own team for a Right Winger is, let’s say, 300 Comparisonator Main AI Index, and if the offered player’s AI Main Index is 250, then the player needs no time to spend.
What happens if a player passes the expected AI levels?
Then other tools inside the platform will help you to compare the same player to the same player year by year, compare the player to another, and virtually transfer the player to your own league to understand how he/she rates. You are able to find a player on your ownAccording to contractual position or the value of the player, or what type of player you want to search for are all in our “Recruitment Shop” section. All you need to do is describe to the system what kind of player you want to find. It will provide findings to you in seconds.
